Wholesome Bread Cape Town Big Walk 2018 Introduces Water Saving Measures
The Wholesome Bread Cape Town Big Walk 2018 presented by Jive has announced that it will be implementing water saving measures for this year’s event.
Practical Water Saving
The biggest reduction in water wastage will be achieved by not using disposable water sachets. These will be replaced with pre-filled, re-usable water bottles handed to each walker. This move to re-usable water bottles also reduces environmental impact and littering that can be caused by water sachets. In addition to this, all ablution facilities will avoid the use of potable water. Walkers are encouraged to bring along hand sanitiser, as food will be on sale on the day.
“We’ve been hosting this walking event in this beautiful city for almost 2 decades, and it is important to us that we do as much as we can to save water under these challenging circumstances”, says race Marketing Director, Dr Elias Parker.
Day Zero in Cape Town
Capetonians are facing the looming reality of Day Zero, which will see municipal taps switched off, cutting water supply to most of Cape Town. The City of Cape Town has implemented Level 6B water restrictions which allows for only 50 litres per person, per day.
The Wholesome Bread Cape Town Big Walk 2018 presented by Jive takes place on the 18th of March 2018.
