The Cape Town Big Walk Foundation

Historically, the Big Walk has maintained a long-standing relationship with 2 key beneficiaries, Red Cross Children’s Hospital and the Academia Library. The event was originally established in 2000 to raise funds for these organizations, and both have benefited immensely from the walk’s fundraising efforts. To date, over R2-million has been donated towards the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, and construction of the state-of-the-art Academia Library in Lansdowne is due for completion in 2016.

“The Cape Town Big Walk Foundation introduces a fresh approach to our fundraising activities, and allows us to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to our communities.”

With the unveiling of the new brand and name, there was an opportunity to broaden the event’s charitable footprint. Dr. Elias Parker, Event Director explains: ‘We launched the Cape Town Big Walk Foundation as a way of managing fundraising efforts for the existing charity organizations that have been a key focus of our walk since it’s inception, but to also allow us to take on other new projects.’

Under this new structure, funds raised will be channeled towards existing beneficiaries, but also other projects that are aligned with the Sunfoil Cape Town Big Walk’s support pillars of education, fitness and health.

The Cape Town Big Walk is committed to giving back to the community, and to making a meaningful contribution towards social upliftment and community development.

There are a number of pertinent issues facing South African today and the Cape Town Big Walk Foundation has chosen to focus it’s attention on causes that will improve and encourage healthy minds and bodies and promote the importance of an active lifestyle.
